- What we did in class: the curse of the "Ne"

- We went over the homework. The answers are in the last email.
Handout 13 explains that when your response refers to "some of it, part of it, or a number" such as "due" "alcuni" "un po'" "la metà" you can use "Ne" as your pronoun when replacing a noun. (If it's all of it, you do not use ne, you use lo, la, li, le.)
You can also use ne in a negative sentence when you want to say "none of it" (nessuno) or "not at all" (affatto or per niente).
We decided that the esercizi on the front of handout 13 had more than one possible correct answer.
On the back of handout 13, part b needed better directions. If there is an amount given, you want to put ne before the verb and then repeat the amount in your answer.
Example:
No, ne voglio uno al cioccolato.
On the back of handout 13, part 6 was easier. We practiced these out loud.
Handout 14. The front was easier. The answers are in the last email.
We did the back together. Here are the answers to the matching:
Pane? Ne prendo un chilo.
Zucchero? Ne voglio un cucchiaino.
Sigarette? Ne fumo un pacchetto al giorno.
Latte? Ne prendo un litro.
Mele? Me ne dà sei o sette di quelle rosse.

For part number 7, the first answer on each one will use "lo, la, li, le" and the second answer will use "ne".

For part number 8, use "ne" and pick the container or the amount which is appropriate.

For part number 9, agree the past participle with the direct object pronoun. (lo, la, li, le)

For part number 10, you will have to choose between "ne" and "lo, la, li, le" . (All but one take "ne".) As with "lo, la, li, le" you will have to agree the past participles with the noun that "ne" is replacing. Let's do number 1 together: in your sentence, "ne" is going to be representing "una strada". So your answer should be:

"Ne ha chiusa solo una."

One more hint: all the verbs are clear except number 3. For your answer, please use the verb "rimanere".

If you have problems with part number 10, I would rather have you translate these questions into ENGLISH so that you understand them, and we will do the answers together in class.

For part number 11, you should put the two sentences together and replace the direct object in the second sentence with "Lo, la, li, le" and agree the past participle with the direct object pronoun..
