 - Preposizioni: Dov'è Chiara? We used the plan of the town, and the map of Europe to talk about the travels and activities of Chiara, Laura, e i due uomini, paying particular attention to in and a. 
in Italia, in Francia, in Inghilterra...
in vacanza, in montagna, in piazza...
vanno in treno, in bici, a piedi, in traghetto...
vado a Roma, a casa, a cena...
vado al cinema, al bar, al ristorante, andiamo al mare...
da Mario, da un amico... (to Mario's house, to a friend's house...)

- imperfetto vs. passato prossimo. Imperfetto answers the question:
  • What was going on?
  • What did you used to do?
Passato prossimo answers the question:
  • What happened?
Sometimes the difference is very distinct, sometimes they can be interchangeable.
Distinct:
Faceva bel tempo. It was nice weather. (always imperfetto)
Pioveva quando Giovanni è arrivato. It was raining (imperfetto) when Giovanni arrived (passato prossimo).
È piovuto per dieci minuti. It rained (passato prossimo) for ten minutes.
Interchangeable:
Avevo un appuntamento con Claudio. (imperfetto to emphasize the situation)
Ho avuto un appuntamento con Claudio. (passato prossimo to emphasize the action)

- Il Bastimento a Tre Piani. We began reading this fable, collected in dialetto around 1900, and retold in modern Italian by Italo Calvino in his "Fiabe Italiane".

1.  Listen to Audio: LEVEL TWO, unit 11. On this CD, they switch between formal and informal.

2. Study pages 263, 264, 265 (if you haven't already). The reading at the top of page 263 is optional. We'll do esercizi C and E in class together next week. Bring those props again, and we will practice the double-object pronouns.

3. Read ahead in Il Bastimento a Tre Piani to the bottom of page 11, "... era tutto ricoperto di tigna."

4. We'll practice "imperfetto - passato prossimo" again next week.

5. Here is an esercizio for you: Change the underlined words to double-object pronouns.

example: Non regalo il libro a Gianni. > Non glielo regalo.

1. Ho comprato quel vestito per mia sorella. > _________ 'ho comprato.
