- Negativi: There are question-and-answer word-pairs in Italian just like there are in English.
sempre? - non mai. - always? - never
già? - non ancora. - already? - not yet.
ancora? - non più - still? - not any more.
tutti? - nessuno - everybody? - nobody
tutto? - niente (or) nulla - everything? - nothing
- Niente di utile! - Remember last week we learned about phrases using qualcosa. qualcosa di utile, qualcosa da mangiare (something useful, something to eat...)
Well, the negative form of these set phrases is formed the same way:
Non c'è niente da mangiare. - There is nothing to eat
Non c'è niente da leggere. - There is nothing to read.
Non c'è niente da ascoltare. - There is nothing to listen to.
Non c'è niente da fare. - There is nothing to do.
Non c'è niente da vedere. - There is nothing to see.
These are all formed by using da plus a verb infinitive.
Non ho trovato niente di utile. - I didn't find anything useful.
...niente di piacevole. - anything pleasant or pleasing.
...niente di interessante. - anything interesting.
Non hai comprato niente di bello? - Did you not buy anything nice? (or anything pretty).
...qualcosa di economico? - anything inexpensive?
These are all formed by using di plus an adjective, and the adjective remains masculine.

4. Practice your advertisement (which you got at the end of class Sept. 21) with lots of excitement in your voice! Rehearse presenting your ad as a pubblicità. You don't need to have it finished before the next class: we'll develop and perfect them over the next few weeks.
