- Il tuo figo della settimana: Raoul Bova. (born 14 August 1971), an Italian actor. Bova was born in Rome to Calabrian parents. At the age of 16 he became a local champion in the 100 meter backstroke.

- Passato prossimo: "Che novità ci sono?" What news is there? Tony è andato a Mill City e ha visto fuochi d'artificio. "Non abbiamo pescato niente!" Teresa la Prima è andata a Sisters e ha insegnato l'italiano ai suoi amici. Ha bisogno di un edificio vuoto per il matrimonio di sua figlia! Teresa la Seconda ha imparato a memoria un proverbio indimenticabile: "Al contadin non far sapere quanto è buono il formaggio con le pere."

- Audio CD. We practiced phrases from units 9, 10, 11, and 12. Che bravi studenti che siete!!

- Dialogo. From the dialogue on page 144, we practiced making sentences using these phrases:

a. Perché non...
Perché non andiamo in Italia? Perché non prendiamo un tassì?

b. Ti va... (plus noun)? Ti va di... (plus infinitive)? - (Does it work for you? Do you feel like...?)
Ti va una pizza? Ti va di andare in pizzeria? Ti va un caffè? Ti va di andare al bar?

c. Cosa ne pensi di... (plus noun or infinitive) - What do you think about...

d. Cosa ne dici di...(plus infinitive) - What do you say to...

e. Ho proprio voglia di... (plus noun or infinitive) - (I really feel like...)
Ho proprio voglia di andare al mare. Ho proprio voglia di andare fuori a mangiare. Ho proprio voglia di una tisana.

- Answers to compiti: We looked at answers to the esercizi on 145 and 146. There are more answers possible than just these! If you have questions, bring them to class or email.

1. Listen to Audio CD unit 13 and 14 over the next two weeks, including listening along with the little reading booklet if you have it.

2. Indirect object pronouns, (say out loud, turn off your brain).
Rispondo a Maria. Le rispondo.
Dico a Giorgio. Gli dico.
Voglio bene a te. Ti voglio bene.
Domando a voi. Vi domando.
Chiedo alle ragazze. Gli chiedo.
Telefono ai cugini. Gli telefono.

3. Read pages 147 and 148 and 149. I think you will be able to get this as it is presented in the book. Here is a bit of additional information:
Here are some verbs which behave differently in Italian. Some Italian verbs take an indirect object, whereas in English they would take a direct object. You have to memorize these.
domandare, chiedere - to ask
fare male - to hurt, or to be bad for
piacere - to please
telefonare - to telephone
volere bene - to love, to care for
rispondere - to answer

For example:
Le chiedo una birra. (in Italian, literally: I ask of her a beer.)

La testa mi fa male. (lit: My head is hurting to me.)

Mi piace la festa. (lit: The party is pleasing to me.)

Le telefono, signora. (lit: To you I'll telephone, signora.)

Ti voglio bene. (To you I love.)

Rispondo alla signora. - (I answer to the signora.)

4. Do esercizi A, B, C, D, E on pages 149 through 151. We'll go over these in class, but you should try them at home. Part B takes all INDIRECT object pronouns. In Part C, all of the people in column C are INDIRECT OBJECTS. In Part D, you have to decide whether these will take indirect or direct objects. Part E, first replace Maria with feminine pronouns. Then, retell the story substituting Enrico (as a masculine pronoun).

5. (optional) Write a paragraph or page to hand in or to email to Nadine. It could be what you did during the week, or it could be related to the vocabulary for the week. When you talk in class about your week, we'll try to do it without reading what you wrote.
