Circolo, inverno 2009

4 La quarta lezione, il 2 febbraio 2009

- "Com'è andato il viaggio a Cabo, Maria?"

- a review of present tense verbs. We reviewed how to conjugate regular -are, -ere, and -ire verbs in the present.

- We went over our homework from last week: verbs, from pages 109, and 110 (A, B, C).

- Direct object pronouns. We did a practice with cue cards: one card has a verb (which takes a direct object) in the present tense. Another stack of cards has a noun (which can be a direct object). Pick two cards which can go together, and form a sentence. Then flip over the noun card, and see the direct object pronoun which you can substitute. Porto Maria. La porto.

- Partire, lasciare, andare via, uscire: to leave (page 102) .

- Dialoghi: Audio CD unit 9. He really wants her to bere qualcosa con me.

- Parole da ricordare:

Lasciami stare! - Leave me alone!
Mi dica. - Tell me. (formal)
Dimmi. - Tell me. (informal)
Smettila! - Stop it!
Assolutamente! - Absolutely.

compiti:

1. Since we went over some of these verbs in class, I'd like you to do these translations. All these verbs (cercare, ascoltare, guardare, pagare, aspettare) take a direct object but NO preposition in Italian. This is covered on page 79 of "Italian: the Easy Way".
a. She's looking for the passport.
b. They're waiting for their cousin.
c. We are listening to the waiter.
d. I am paying for the pizza.
e. Are you guys looking at the time-table? (orario)

2. Listen to Audio CD unit 10.

3. Chapter review: "Piccolo Ripasso" on page 110. We'll do Part D in class next time! Go through this, if you haven't yet.

4. Read handout 5: Articolo determinativo, and "Bello". Do the exercises A and B on page 60. Be ready to do C and D in class next time. Read the sidebar on page 59 ("Nota Bene") very carefully.

5. (optional) We only looked at the front of handout 4: Verbi (yellow). But I would like you all to look at the back (click here for the back) because we are going to do this next week in class.

6. (optional) Some people read the reading on page 111 last week. There are also readings on pages 116 and 117. If you have time, go ahead and read as much of this as you can.

7. I would like to review the present tense before we go on to the past tense (in chapter 5). Write out the conjugations of these verbs in the present tense. And say them aloud!
dovere
potere
volere
sapere
uscire
venire
fare
dare
stare
andare
and these regular verbs:
