- Un sacco di verbi! We did a lot of verbs!
We recited conjugations of all the irregular verbs in last week's homework: essere, avere, stare, fare, andare, dare, venire,
plus the regular verbs from last week's homework: cercare, pagare, aspettare, giocare, chiedere, rispondere, mettere, capire, preferire, aprire, servire,
plus the irregular verbs on page 158: dare, dire, bere, uscire, salire, tenere.

- Avere idioms: Page 36. (You remember that we added "Avere bisogno di..." to this list.) All of these words: fame, sete, sonno, fretta, bisogno di...(ecc.) are nouns. Do you have hunger? Do you have thirst? Do you have sleepiness? Do you have haste? Do you have need of...?
.
Both "voglia di..." and "bisogno di..." can be followed by a noun:
Hai bisogno di una bicicletta? - Do you need a bicycle?
Avete bisogno di aiuto? - Do you (pl.) have need of help?
Ho voglia di un gelato. - I feel like a gelato.
or followed by an infinitive:
Avete bisogno di prendere il treno? - Do you (pl.) need (have need) to catch the train?
Abbiamo voglia di andare al concerto. - We feel like going to the concert.

- Preposizioni: We went over the yellow handout from last week.

1.    La banca è fra l’albergo e il ristorante.  (could also be tra) -between

2.    Andiamo in Italia. - to (Use "in" with a country, state, or region to mean "in" or "to".)

3.    Ceniamo con amici. - with

4.    Il bicchiere è su un piatto. - on

5.    Questo è per Giorgio. - for ("per" can also mean "through") Vado per il parco. - I go through the park.

6.    Veniamo da Roma. - from

Note: the sentence "Veniamo da Roma" can mean either "We are coming from Rome" or "We come from Rome originally."

7.    Di chi è questa valigia? - of (posession: Whose suitcase is this?)

8.    È di Francesca. - of (posession: It's Francesca's.)

Note: we didn't cover 7 and 8 in class: we'll practice this next week.

9.    Siamo a Venezia. - in : use "a" with cities and little islands to mean "in" or "to". (Big islands take "in": in Sicilia, in Sardegna...)

10.         Ritornano da Parigi. - from

11.         Di dove sono? - Of where are they? (Where are they from?)

Also, in class we discussed:

Partire (to depart for somewhere) uses per: Parto per Napoli.

With a street, use "in": Abito in Via Garibaldi.

With transport, use "in" : Andiamo a Parigi in treno. Giorgio va in macchina. Laura va in aereo.

on foot: a piedi : Andiamo a piedi al bar.

- Using "da", "a", "alle". You are buying a ticket at the train station. Your friend asks you, "Where are you going?", "How much does the ticket cost?", and "When does the train depart for...."
You answer:

Translate these sentences into Italian:
1.     I need to call Francesca. (chiamare)
